I went to the SSA office with the plan of updating my citizenship status. I did not have to wait long because there were not that many people and I thought that was a good sign. Wrong! I was told that the update did not go through because the computer could not identify my number and was told to return after 14 days. I could not even get a replacement card because I don’t have anything to show as proof of my immigration status but my naturalization certificate. So I will have to wait for two weeks and hope that by then homeland security has already updated their database so SSA can update my citizenship status. If approved, I will have to wait another week or two to get my new replacement card. Then it will be time to apply for a passport. One step at a time, I keep telling myself but I get impatient still. Maybe it will all work out sooner than I expect. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
