When I was in the Philippines I used to sleep with the radio on. Radio stations play love songs that will make a person cry for no reason lull a person to sleep at night time there. My cousins and I used to listen to the lyrics and felt like the singer was singing for us. Nuts? That was us, lol. I don’t know, radio has always been a part of our lives back then. Not so much now since I don’t like to listen to loud songs or songs that are played over and over every single day. I want variety but I can’t have that listening to local stations here so I am resorting to the internet to listen to the songs I am used to hearing when I was still in PI. Thankfully there is a website like e-Radioportal where I can listen to songs both in English and Filipino. Now I can unwind by listening to soothing songs online.

I grew up without experiencing the wonders of electronics. Our idea of fun were making guns out of banana stalks and gearing spiders for, what else, spider fights where the winner gets to own the losing spider if it did not end up the other spider’s meal. Pretty brutal? Not really. It was super fun! I want my son to experience what I did but considering how his father reacts when he sees a bug near his son I don’t think it will happen. Besides my son is born in the era of electronics where kids’ ideas of recreation is either playing a game on PS3 or surfing the internet. I don’t blame them. Should these kind of games were available then I probably would be hooked too since I am now (the husband claims) addicted to the internet. I must admit I am, a bit. I can’t help it we do have internet and I have two computers :D

For years, my father complained about his poor eyesight. He thought that it had something to do with old age so he went to eye doctors for prescription and he started wearing eyeglasses. Even with the eyeglasses though he still complained about how blurry his eyesight was. He resorted to using eye drops and when it did not work, he used what the doctor claimed as the best eye cream but still he complained about his eyesight. So recently he went to another eye doctor and he was told that the reason for his blurry vision was actually cataract. How the other doctor did not know what was wrong was questionable. After all, my father has had this little white cloud in his right eye which has grown through the years. We all hope it can still be treated and that he will have some kind of normalcy with his eyesight.

It seems like the hurricane we were dreading to hit us this week detoured and we are spared for now. Hopefully there will be no more storms or hurricane to form. It is a long shot but we can always hope. Although we are ready to evacuate should a hurricane hits but the uncertainty and the stress get to us. We only have a few more weeks and the hurricane season will be over. Until then we have to keep our eyes on the weather channel and hope for the best.

I posted here that my old laptop acquired a virus from an unknown source. The night it happened I was so frustrated I could not think straight. I was ready to purchase a recovery CD from the manufacturer because the laptop did not come with it. I had second thoughts though and so after messing with it for a long time (I went to bed at midnight that night) I followed the husband’s advice and unplugged the charger and took the battery off. I am glad I listened to him because the next day when I put the battery back and turned the computer on, it prompted me to start the computer on safe mode. I totally forgot I could do that. So I did and I restored the computer a week prior which solved the problem for a while. I knew the virus was still there and it will eventually pop up after hours of using the computer so I went ahead and reformat the computer. I found out the reason the laptop did not come with a CD was because the computer has a built-in recovery system. It totally reformatted my computer and deleted all data including pictures. That was the second time in two years that I lost plenty of pictures because of a virus. Am I sad? Not much because I was able to save some of those pictures on a CD which I found on our box of  old pictures. I must have subconsciously knew that that was going to happen. I am happy that the computer is running good again. If the virus is still in it I could not tell at the moment since it has not acted funny yet. I will know in a few days I guess.

I have been picking up toys and blankets and food from the carpet since this morning. It is a pretty  daunting task when you have to do it several times. I know I can just let my son do as he pleases but the living room is tiny and when you add up toys big and small to the couch and the center table, it makes it look more crowded so I have to clean when the litter gets too much. It did not stop the little man to do what he wants though. He found cardboard boxes which his father saved for when we need ‘em and he is now playing in the carpet lining them up. He tried to use his doodle pro pen to write on the boxes but it did not work. It may be that cardboard displays are pleasant to the eyes when done by a professional but this little man is far from it. I am not taking any chance of giving him a marker and releasing his creative side on the  boxes and then who knows where else. So on top of trying to keep the carpet clean from debris toys I also have to get this boxes out of the way. Dandy!

  • 15 Aug 2009 /  getting ready, hurricane season, plans

Hurricane season started last June but we are only starting to gather food and basic things we might need in case one hits where are at. We are doing this because the husband heard from the news that there is a storm brewing somewhere in the Atlantic and we will know next week whether it will just be a weak storm or a hurricane. He said we have to get ready now before people flock to the stores to buy supplies. It does not hurt to buy canned goods anyways because they keep for a year or two. We already have gallons of water, candy bars, and canned goods and what we will do is we will add more to the stash when we think of something we can get which will keep for a while. I really hope this will be a good year and no hurricane will touch down South but we can never be sure so we have to get ready just in case we have to evacuate. We already told the sister-in-law to reserve us a room just in case. Hopefully the car will not disappoint us for the long trip.

This is what I have been doing before I went to bed last night (which was about midnight) and when I woke up this morning. Honestly, I did not want to wake up but the little man was persistent on waking me up saying hi while rubbing his face on mine. I now am grateful for what he did because I am able to think clearly and do things without being frustrated and angry unlike last night. If you must know, my old laptop acquired a virus two days ago which I thought I was able to get rid of until the husband told me there was this annoying pop up about an antivirus pro when he used my computer last night. I was so angry last night for the uselessness of this thing called antivirus protection. Paid a lot of money for it only to realize it is not worth a s*it. But anyway, I went to Acer and emailed support which was no use because I was told they could not help me and forwarded me to another online tech person. Way to go! So I am doing things on my own with the help of some readings online. I hope I did not mess things up or we might just have to get rid of the computer. I don’t think the husband’s reaction for me tearing something up again will be good, lol. It is crazy but I guess it is a learning process. I might have to lay off entrecard, yahoo messenger, and other sites as well because I am afraid of another infestation. Hay life!
